Just before my move to Brazil, I had submited several articles to TI Especialistas to compensate for the time I needed in preparing for my move. With the last article I submitted while still in the USA, Augusto commented that this would be my last article from the United States and that the next article would have to be ‘Made in Brazil’…
So, this is the title of my article – Made in Brazil!
A recent and quite unscientific survey of travelers to various countries noted that Brazil has the friendliest people. To this, I have to agree fully. Having traveled several times to Brazil before moving here, each time I was greeted with smiles, and a willingness to assist with any request I had. For this, I am referring to people who were on the street, in the stores, sitting on a bench with me, anywhere in the public areas — not just people in the hospitality industry like hotels, airlines, and restaurants. Yes, we all have to be careful that someone could be a fox in sheep’s clothing, but that is rare. After all, the eyes always lead to the soul.
All of Brazil, including the IT industry, has a soul that reflects the culture and people of Brazil. Even when in the USA, it is not difficult to detect a Brazilian. The Brazilian people have their own ‘Made in Brazil’ atmosphere about them. The atmosphere of a Brazilian is warm, gentle, caring, patient, inviting, and ready to assist.
This is what will make the mark of the Brazilian industries to the world, including IT, as Brazil becomes a larger economy and a bigger contender in the global market. There is an extra touch of personality to everything Brazilians do — more so than other countries I have visited. True Brazilians care about the product and service they provide — and they provide the best they can with what they have.
What Brazil will do with all this in the global market remains to be seen — Brazil has a excellent opportunity on many levels for their future. With the economies of many nations on the brink of disaster, Brazil will be affected by this as I beleive no nation will be unaffected by the economic adjustments that are coming. But Brazil is in a much better position to survive and grow through all this, unlike most nations today. For this, I am very happy to be here, and witness all this from the lands of Brazil.
I am not made in Brazil even though I will be marrying my Brazilian fiancé soon. Still, this does not make me a Brazilian. But I do look forward to learning what I can from Brazil, and sharing with Brazil what I have learned from the USA and other countries. If I can help in the smallest of ways, then I have been successful. If I can help in even greater ways, then it is only because Brazil has taught me her ways.
